Community Impact
When churches open their doors to community programs it creates a larger halo effect for the whole community. Research shows that churches typically only use about 10% of building use for worship related activities (source). So what about that other 90%?
At Rose City Community Collective, we want to use the sacred resource of our building well by intentionally partnering with non-profit organizations and programs that align with the historic values of the church. So while church activities are the corner stone of the building, the Collective values all of the programs in the building and the ways they positively impact the community.
The first gatherings of Rose City Park United Methodist Church in 1913 were held in a tent on the then newly acquired property at 58th and Alameda. The original part of the current structure was then created in 1925 and has been added to since, expanding to meet community needs.
The historical value of the building is found in both its features such as the beautiful stained glass windows, as well as its long time values of radical hospitality and welcoming all people. This value of inclusion has led the way in both past and present programming hosted in the building. All building income from space sharing goes directly to support the facility costs to run and maintain this historic asset and continue its place as a valuable community space where all are welcome.
